Patient Manual - Prescriptions
Our Responsibility

Our staff is available to refill prescriptions following contact from your pharmacy. Such refills are responded electronically during working hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., Friday) and will be taken care of within 24 to 48 hours.
We will also be responsible to be certain that proper monitoring (lab tests, etc.) has been maintained so that it will be safe to continue refilling your prescription to prevent any potential adverse effects of your medication from being overlooked.

Your Responsibility

Prescriptions are to be taken as prescribed and only by the person to whom they were prescribed. Any change in the dosage should be mutually agreed upon by the patient and prescribing physician. This includes any decision to discontinue a medication. If you or another physician feels one of your medications needs to be discontinued, our doctors request a call to our office so that other alternatives can be arranged.
In order to prevent a lapse in the effective dose of your medications, prescription refills must be called in 48 hours or more prior to the refill date. Refills will not be called in after hours or on weekends. Exceptions will only be made in the event of a true emergency.
Many of the medications used in the management of the diseases we treat have potential side effects that require monitoring to assure patient safety. Our doctors will make arrangements for such monitoring through our office or that of your primary care physician. It is your responsibility to follow the monitoring schedule laid out for you by your doctor and keep follow-up visits if you expect your prescriptions to be refilled. For our doctors to continue refilling any prescription, patients must be seen at least once per year.
